The table illustrates the proportion of adults in cities and the countryside engaging in various hobbies in 1990 and 2010. From an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that all leisure activities were more popular among adults in rural regions in both years, with the only exception being reading in 2010. It is also noteworthy that adults living in both areas were interested in reading the most in 1990 and 2010.
Looking first at the most preferred hobby, a slightly higher percentage of rural adults read books compared to urban ones, accounting for 71% and 61%, respectively. After 20 years, the figure for rural areas increased marginally to 78%, which was identical to that of urban areas following a significant rise. In terms of the second most enjoyed activity, 21% of urban adults and 26% of rural adults played in 1990. In 2010, the data for rural adults remained unchanged at 26%, whereas a substantial drop of 7% was recorded for urban adults.
It is notable that the percentage of urban adults showing interest in animated play remained stable at 10% in both years in question. In contrast, animated play became less prevalent in the countryside, with the percentage of adults engaging in this activity falling slightly from 18% to 14% from 1990 to 2010. Lastly, photography was the least common hobby among urban adults in 1990, with only 7% of adults, after which it soared to 17% and became the second most favored activity in cities in 2010. The figure for rural adults taking part in photography grew to a similar degree, starting from 17% in 1990 and reaching 24% in 2010.
