The table indicates the figure for Australians traveling to various popular tourist destinations in 1999 and 2009.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that all destinations witnessed increases of more than 100% in terms of visitors coming from Australia, except for the UK and the US. New Zealand was the most popular destination for Australians in both years in question, while the opposite was true for China in 1999 and Japan in 2009.
In 1999, New Zealand recorded the highest number of Australian visitors at 500,700, followed by the UK at 400,000 and the US at 300,000. Indonesia, Fiji, and Japan’s data were significantly lower, accounting for only 150,000, 120,000, and 100,000, respectively. Lastly, China attracted the least tourists, reporting a mere 86,000.
Over the following decade, the figure for Australians traveling to China increased more than threefold to reach 300,000, representing a notable 249% increase and surpassing the figures for Japan and Fiji that year, at 250,000 and 257,000, in turn. Indonesia and New Zealand’s statistics more than doubled to 340,000 and 1,064,000, corresponding to rises of 127% and 113%, for each. The percentage increases of the US and the UK were less prominent, with the former rising to 400,000 (a 33% growth) and the latter to 640,000 (a 60% growth).
