The bar chart demonstrates the proportions of movie releases and sale figures for tickets in 1996 and 2000. From an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that more films were released over the period in question, except for romance, with the majority of them being drama. Cinema-goers were most interested in comedy and drama films in both years, while fantasy and romance movies garnered little attention, with the latter being the only genre witnessing a decline in ticket sales.
In 1996, the proportion of drama movies released was highest, accounting for 26%, followed closely by comedy at precisely 20%. Fantasy and romance movies’ data trailed significantly behind at slightly over 10% and roughly 5%, respectively. After four years, there were upward trends in the figures for all movies released, with the exception of romance, which remained unchanged. Drama films’ proportion grew most notably to reach 35%, whereas less significant increases were recorded for comedy and fantasy movies, reaching 25% and 16%, for each.
Looking next at ticket sales in both years, there were marked disparities between the figures for drama and comedy films on the one hand, and fantasy and romance on the other. In 1996, comedy movie tickets were most sought after, constituting 20%, marginally higher than the data for drama, at about 16%. In 2000, drama movies’ percentage increased to 17%, while a more prominent growth was registered for comedy, reaching approximately 23%. Fantasy and romance’s percentages, however, indicated opposite patterns, with the former rising from only 3% to 7 and the latter falling to a mere 2%.
