Cost of water

The table delineates how much money five Australian cities charge for water consumption.

Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that water bills for households using over 125 kilolitres are higher than under 125 kilolitres in all cities, except Melbourne and Sydney. Families in Perth must pay the most for water usage, whereas those in Melbourne pay by far the least.

Water providers charge residents living in Sydney consuming under 125 kilolitre the most at $0.98 per liter, followed by Brisbane and Melbourne at $0.81 and $0.78, respectively. Households in Perth and Adelaide incur the same costs in this category at $0.42 each. Despite Perth and Adelaide’s water usage charge per liter being least significant up to 125KL, these cities account for the highest expenditure per liter if households exceed the 125KL threshold, with the former charging more than threefold at $1.50 and the latter more than double at $1.00. In comparison, Brisbane’s water costs are slightly higher at $0.84, with water prices in Sydney and Melbourne remaining unaltered even at higher usage thresholds

Looking at the average water bill per household, Perth’s number is most notable at $332, followed by Sydney at $319, Adelaide at $312 and Brisbane at $310. Residents in Melbourne experience by far the lowest water expenditure, representing only $253.
