Career path

dream job, application, job

Some people believe that young people should choose the jobs that they want, but other people think they should be more realistic and think more about their future.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Many feel that young individuals should pursue their dream jobs, while others would contend that they should seek more realistic employment options. In my opinion, although choosing to work high-paying jobs can allow for a comfortable lifestyle, the young should work jobs that they are passionate about to increase their chances of success.

Proponents of pursuing well-paid jobs typically point to higher living standards. Jobs with promising career prospects allows employees to gain access to great fringe benefits ranging from social welfare plans, pensions, and tuition assistance, which potentially ensure one’s future financial security. The money saved can then be allocated towards enjoying personal hobbies and therefore engender a sense of personal fulfillment. For example, those spending their savings on their passion such as taking vacations around the world or playing sports are typically more content with their life.

However, pursuing pragmatic jobs that do not align with one’s real interests can result in burnout. Those working in jobs that are unrelated to their degree or arranged by parents are likely to feel frustrated on a daily basis as they are suppressing their true desire. For instance, individuals working a nine-to-five job just to make a living are at risk of chronically elevated stress and even depression in rarer cases. In contrast, those pursuing jobs based on their interests not only enjoy better mental health but also have a stronger likelihood of becoming successful. A standout example of this is Steve Job, who has found tremendous success after famously dropping out of college to create a start-up selling technological devices.

In conclusion, despite the financial stability associated with pursuing practical jobs, those taking a passion-driven approach can enjoy better mental well-being and are more likely to achieve long-term career success. All young individuals should follow their passion to maximize their potential.
