The bar charts illustrate the percentages of food and goods that supermarkets sold in European countries in 1998 and 2008. Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the data for food bought in supermarkets in country A, B, and C all witnessed increases after a decade, while the same was true for that of goods. Despite supermarkets in country B selling the most food and goods in 1998, both figures were surpassed by country A in 2008.
In 1998, country B recorded the highest proportion of food purchased in supermarkets at about 23%, followed distantly by country A and C’s percentages at precisely 10%, and 6%, respectively. After ten years, country B and C’s data experienced minor rises, with the former growing more considerably to 27% and the latter to 8%. In contrast, country A’s data more than tripled to exactly 35%, surpassing country B by a wide margin.
In the first year examined, supermarkets in country B sold the greatest percentage of goods at nearly 25%, with country A and C’s statistics trailing significantly at 3% and merely 1%. Country A’s figure thereafter surged to a notable figure of 39% and country C’s to 14%. Only a negligible increase was registered in country B, rising only by 2%.
