Human safety

Many people don’t feel safe either when they are at home or when they go out.

What are the reasons for this?

What can be done to solve this problem?

Many individuals feel unsafe whether they are inside their house or outside. This fear mainly stems from increasing crime rates and natural catastrophes. However, the government can crack down on criminal activities and take certain precautions to reduce the potential damage of natural disasters.

At present, some individuals feel that their life is under constant threat due to rampant crime. In countries where drug cartels control  large areas of territory and are protected by corrupt government officials, residents are likely to become paranoid as they believe that their homes may be raided at any moment. For example, there were many incidents in Mexico, where citizens often find themselves in life-or-death situations as gun fights between gangs erupt regularly on the streets. In addition, people may also feel unsafe if they live in areas that are prone to natural disasters. As a result of Japan’s geographical location being near four major tectonic plates, its general population has to live in constant fear of potential earthquakes and tsunamis.

Nevertheless, the government can intensify efforts to combat criminal organizations. A viable measure includes the request for military aid from more developed nations to capture cartel leaders and disrupt their operations. A pertinent example of the effectiveness of this strategy can be observed when the Mexican government allowed the US to intervene and arrest El Mencho, dismantling the cartel leadership and undermining their influence. In addition, the government can impose safety measures to warn citizens about any immediate natural threats. A safety system has been successfully implemented in Japan, whereby the public can receive emergency text alerts on their phones, even without internet access, if there is a high likelihood of an earthquake.

In conclusion, individuals might feel that their safety is at risk  both indoors and outdoors because of the prevalence of criminal activities and natural disasters. Notwithstanding this, the government can take strict action against criminals and utilize forecasting systems to warn citizens about impending natural catastrophes.
