The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
The charts illustrate the information related to the number of books borrowed divided by genre and the age demographics of library members in 2016 and from 2007 to 2016. From an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the majority of library members were adults aged 18 to 64 and children. These members were most interested in loaning children’s fiction and adult fiction books, while children’s DVDs, young adults and adult non-fiction books, were least popular, with the total figure for loans gradually increasing over time.
Looking first at the age statistics for library visitors, 51% of them were from 18 to 64 years old. This figure was followed by that of children at 22%, young adults aged 13 to 17 at 15%, and lastly senior adults at 12%. In terms of the book genres most commonly borrowed, children’s fiction and adult fiction publications ranked highest and were equal, accounting for 38%, each. The data for adult non-fiction books trailed significantly at 13%, which was more than double compared to children’s non fiction books at 6%. The percentages of adult audio books, adult non-fiction books, and children’s DVDs were negligible, ranging from only 1% to 2%.
Regarding the total number of books loaned, the year 2007 recorded the lowest figure, at slightly over 15,000. This number thereafter witnessed a gradual growth to reach a high of 21,000 in 2011, prior to a moderate decline to to hit nearly 20,000 in 2013 and finally a full recovery to achieve an all-time high of 22,000 in 2016. This trend indicates that borrowing books became increasingly popular over the given period.
