The diagram illustrates the steps involved in the manufacture of wire. Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the process of producing wire is divided into three main stages. These include the combination of raw materials, followed by heating, shaping, and finally cooling and winding.
Initially, after coking coal and iron ore are mixed together, this mixture is placed inside a blast furnace to be heated to 1,300 degrees. The molten mixture is subsequently delivered to an arc furnace through a pipe, in which reduced coal is added and the temperature is increased to around 1,800 degrees. At this stage, lime is introduced into the furnace, while two outlets at the top are responsible for removing gas, creating purified liquid metal.
In the following stages, the pure liquid metal is transferred to a vat, which will then be cast into multiple layers of moulds. Once the molded liquid metal is pressed and shaped through a series of specialized machines, it is cooled to 150 degrees, causing it to solidify and become ready for further processing. Finally, the hardened metal is wound onto spools and transformed into coils, producing the end product.
