Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that women travel longer distances than men to meet friends, take children to school, and go shopping, while the opposite is true for the remaining categories. Men travel the greatest distance to commute for work, whereas women mostly travel for both work and shopping.
Looking first at the category with the longest distance travelled for both genders, men go 35,000 miles to get to work, significantly higher than women’s figure at 30,000 miles. The distance that women travel to go shopping is marginally greater than men, accounting for precisely 30,000 and around 27,000 miles, respectively. Similarly, women travelled further to take children to school compared to men, with the former representing 27,000 miles and the latter slightly above 25,000 miles.
Both sexes travel the least for day trips, with men’s data registering around 6,000 miles and women’s exactly 10,000 miles. Concerning entertainment, women cover considerably shorter distances than men for this activity, with their respective figures being 12,000 and 15,000 miles. On the contrary, women tend to travel further to meet friends than their male counterparts, recording 25,000 and 23,000 miles, for each.
