Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that country X attracted fewer tourists from all nations in question in 2008 compared to 2007, with the US and Canada’s figure being by far the lowest. All tourism related businesses saw declines in yearly income, with hotel and resort’s revenue suffering the most noticeable drops.
Looking first of all at the data points for tourists in 2007, country X attracted the most Chinese and Japanese tourists, with a combined number reaching 300,000, followed closely by Australia’s figure at approximately 280,000. There was thereafter a significant fall in China and Japan’s number and a smaller reduction in Australia’s to slightly over 200,000 and 260,000, respectively in 2008. The US, Canada and Europe recorded comparable numbers of tourists visiting country X in 2007, with the former accounting for 220,000 and the latter 230,000. After one year, the US and Canada’s statistics plummeted to around just 20,000 while Europe’s reduced by more than half to about 10,000.
In terms of annual revenue in 2007, hotels and resorts dominated the tourism industry, generating the most income ($3.5 million), with restaurants, bars and souvenir shops trailing significantly ($2.4 million). Considerably lower figures were recorded in the remaining industries surveyed, with transportation and travel agents’ revenue at $1.3 million and tour guides, small vendors and other services $1.4 million. By 2008, hotels and resorts had witnessed the most significant drop ($0.5 million), restaurants, bars and souvenir shops halved ($1.2 million), transportation and travel agents fell greatly ($0.4 million), and lastly tour services dipped slightly ($1.1 million).
