From an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that property prices in London were by far the highest in both years in question, especially in 2014. Real estate prices in all cities witnessed increases after five years, with Singapore being the only exception.
Looking first of all at the most expensive cities for home owners in 2009, there were 523 homes sold at 5 million dollars or more in London, followed by 476 homes recorded in New York and 388 in Hongkong. These figures thereafter grew in 2014, with London accounting for the most significant growth and reaching 1638 homes, whereas more modest rises were registered for New York and Hongkong, increasing to 476 and 388, respectively.
Concerning the less costly cities for individuals to buy a house, the numbers of properties valued at 5 million dollars or over sold in Miami, Los Angeles, and Sydney were comparable at 256, 178, and 151, for each. After five years, the figures for homes sold in all three cities increased to a relatively similar degree, with Miami’s data reaching 312, Los Angeles 214, and Sydney 258.
Lastly, the data for homes sold for at least 5 million dollars in Dubai in 2009 was negligible at 12, after which it more than tripled to 46 in 2014. In contrast, there were fewer homes sold in Singapore during this period, dropping from 107 homes in 2009 to just 74 homes in 2014.
