The diagram illustrates the layout of the Central library twenty years ago compared to the present day.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the library has become more modern, with the addition of computers and self-service machines. All areas have been repurposed, with sections for various book genres being relocated and expanded space for events and refreshments.
Looking first of all at the center of the floor plan, the tables and chairs have been completely cleared away, while the position of the entrance has remained unchanged. On the left side, an area that was once designated for adult fiction books has been replaced by reference materials. In the bottom-left hand corner of the library, a sizable reading room with traditional publications has been converted into a computer room, with its door now directly facing the entrance. The room at the top left that previously contained media such as CDs, videos and computer games has been expanded and utilized for storytelling events, with sofas and children’s fiction books being added.
The area on the right side of the library, where adult non-fiction books were previously displayed, is now used for adult fiction instead, alongside a new information desk and self-service kiosks. The rooms that previously housed children’s books and an enquiry desk have been transformed into a lecture room and a cafe, respectively.
