Recycling storm water

The diagram delineates the process by which storm water is recycled in an Australian city. 

Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the process of recycling rain water is divided into three main stages. These involve the collection of water through the drainage system, four-step filtration and chlorination, and lastly storage.   

The process begins when rainwater flows through drains into a pipe to be transferred to an underground water recycling plant. The rainwater is then purified through four distinct steps, beginning with the removal of plastic and rubbish, followed by small particles, bacteria and viruses, and finally molecules and salt. 

In the following stage, the water undergoes further treatment as chlorine is added in concentrations of 4 milligrams per liter. The pipe continues to move the clean water to storage tanks, where it can be distributed with relative ease to households on the ground for daily use.
