The plans illustrate how the South Wing of Walton Museum has transformed over a period of four years starting from 2008. Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the museum offered a wider variety of services over time, with the introduction of a restaurant, a cafe, a children’s playground, a reading and an exhibition room. The museum also became more modern, with the flight of stairs being replaced by an elevator. In 2008, a shop and a cloakroom were separated by a set of stairs leading to the second floor, where a reading room and a reception were located. After four years, this area witnessed significant expansion, with the construction of additional floors that housed a restaurant, an exhibition room, and a self-service cafe. In the building on the left of the lift, the shop on the ground floor remained unchanged, while the floor above accommodated both the reception and the cloak room. On the right of the lift, however, no alterations were made to the reading room on the second floor, while the space left vacant after the relocation of the cloak room was converted into a children’s playground.
Regarding the remaining areas of the museum, in 2008, there was a path that led to an outdoor entrance on the second floor, with a gallery situated directly below. Over the following four years, the gallery remained untouched, whereas the entrance was redesigned into an enclosed hallway and a terrace was added on the roof, where visitors could sit at tables under umbrellas.
