Some individuals believe that robots play an instrumental role in the progress of human civilization on the whole, while others would contend that these inventions have a detrimental impact on society. In my opinion, although robots can contribute to people leading a more inactive lifestyle, they are decidedly beneficial overall as their potential to propel the human race forward is limitless.
On the one hand, the advent of domestic robots can make individuals less physically active. With the emergence of robots that could take care of all household chores, individuals would likely lead a more sedentary lifestyle, resulting in elevated risks of developing certain health problems. For example, the use of advanced inventions such as, robots for window-cleaning, cooking, and lawn-mowing, could make their owners significantly less active, predisposing them to weight gain and even obesity. The overreliance on these robots in the long term could make individuals lose even the most basic life skills, creating serious problems especially when there is a malfunction. This concern is particularly relevant in technologically advanced countries such as Japan, where overdependence on robots could become problematic in the event of technical failures, leaving individuals struggling to perform basic household tasks such as cleaning and cooking.
Nevertheless, the aforementioned concerns are unlikely to materialize in reality and these robots are a net positive for society due to their unlimited potential. Cutting-edge robots can be utilized for space exploration as they can withstand extreme environments to collect important materials and data, thereby accelerating the progress of scientific research. For instance, robots can navigate dangerous terrains and travel to locations with extremely high temperatures to obtain samples and assess survivability on Mars. Such valuable information could facilitate the colonization of other planets, paving the way for humanity to become a multiplanetary species. This future transition could reduce humanity’s reliance on Earth’s finite resources while also enhancing our resilience against global-scale disasters.
In conclusion, although the development of robots could negatively affect people’s overall well-being to an extent, their applications in space programs make them unequivocally positive for society. Governments should make substantial budgetary allocation to the advancement of robotic technology to benefit humanity as a whole.
