The line graph illustrates the proportions of unemployed individuals in the UK, Japan and the remainder of Europe over a period of 14 years starting from 1993.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the unemployment figure in Japan witnessed an upward trend, while the opposite was the case for the UK and the rest of Europe, with the UK’s decline being more significant. Europe suffered from the highest unemployment rates over the period given, with the exception of isolated periods from 1993 to 1995.
In 1993, the data for the unemployed in the UK was most notable at 11%, followed by the rest of Europe at 9%. From 1993 to 1997, the UK and Europe experienced opposite trajectories, with the former reducing significantly to precisely 8% and the latter rising dramatically, surpassing the UK’s percentage to reach a peak of 11,5%. Over the following ten years, the UK continued falling to 5% in 2001, then plateaued until 2005 before recovering to end at 6%. Similarly, Europe’s proportion plummeted to marginally over 8% in 2003, after which it levelled off for two years and finally decreased to 7,8% in 2007.
The figure for unemployed individuals in Japan was at its lowest in 1993, accounting for 2%. Japan’s statistics thereafter increased substantially to reach a peak of exactly 6% before plunging to finish at 4%.
