Some argue that conventional classrooms are likely to vanish in the near future. In my opinion, despite the practicality and convenience of virtual classrooms, artificial intelligence cannot fully replace teachers as teaching involves more social aspects than just knowledge transfer.
On the one hand, some contend that traditional classrooms will disappear by the year 2050 due to the advancement of technology. It is possible that online classes will become the norm, as they save both students and teachers valuable travel time, thereby reducing fatigue and enhancing overall learning productivity. For example, the growing popularity of virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet has led to students being more punctual and attentive in class, as they can learn from the comfort of their own homes. With increasingly intelligent AI assistants, teachers can co-operate with these bots to create more engaging lessons. During a history lesson, instead of just writing down past events on the blackboard, teachers can utilize artificial intelligence to simulate historical scenes, allowing students to experience history firsthand and consequently aid their retention of knowledge.
However, I believe that traditional classrooms cannot be completely eliminated as human connection cannot be replicated by artificial intelligence. The role of teachers in a classroom goes beyond transferring knowledge as it involves connection with students on an emotional level and instills moral values, all of which are uniquely human values that AI cannot replace. For instance, a student who struggles with anxiety or motivation needs empathy, encouragement, and understanding, forms of support that only a human teacher can naturally provide. Another reason traditional classrooms remain irreplaceable is that they provide students with valuable opportunities to interact and collaborate with their peers. For example, group discussions or classroom projects encourage students to exchange ideas, solve problems together, and learn to respect different perspectives, experiences that are difficult to replicate in virtual settings.
In conclusion, although modern technology is likely to change how classrooms operate to a certain extent, the fundamental interaction between teachers and students will remain unchanged.
