The chart illustrates how many kilometers passengers of various means of transport travelled in the UK over a period of ten years starting from 1990
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the total distance travelled by buses and trains was significantly greater than the remaining modes of transport. Over the period given, the figures for kilometers travelled by all forms of transport witnessed slight increases, while the opposite was true for bicycles and motorbikes.
Looking first at the most utilized means of transport, bus passengers travelled around 40 billion kilometers in 1990, with trains’ figure trailing slightly at 37 billion kilometers. The total distance recorded for railways grew more considerably over the next ten years to surpass buses’ data and reach 45 billion kilometers, whereas the latter only rose to roughly 43 billion kilometers. The same was the case for total kilometers travelled by all means of transport as it experienced a slight growth from 110 billion kilometers in 1990 to 117 billion kilometers in 2000.
In 1990, the statistics for kilometers travelled in total by motorbikes, bicycles, and planes were comparable, representing about 10 billion , 9 billion, and 8 billion, respectively. After ten years, air’s figure grew slightly to 10 kilometers, while bicycles and motorbikes’ both dipped to 8 and 7 kilometers, for each.
