The table illustrates the statistics for individuals taking part in a wildlife survey in Britain over a period of eight years starting from 2001. From an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that total survey participants generally increased over time, except for the year 2007, with adults mainly contributing to this growth. The number of children surveyed remained significantly lower than that of adults throughout the period, although this pattern reversed and was equal in the final year in question.
In 2001, the disparity between the figures for adults and children involved in the wildlife survey was negligible, with a total of 36,000 adult survey takers compared to 12,000 children. After two years, however, the gap had widened significantly, with the data for adults soaring to 212,000 and children tripling to 36,000. In 2005, the statistics for adults and children taking the survey witnessed opposite trajectories, with the former continuing its rapid rise to reach 332,000 and the latter dipping slightly to 32,000. Over the next two years, there were marginal declines of 1,000 survey participants for both groups. This was followed by a further drop in the number of adult survey participants to 270,000, a figure which was matched by the figure for children after a ninefold surge.
Turning to the total number of survey takers, the figure recorded in 2001 was lowest at 48,000, after which participation surged to 364,000 by 2005. After a slight decrease to 362,000 in 2007, the number of survey participants more than recovered to finish at an all-time high of 540,000.
