Wool processing

The diagram illustrates the steps involved in processing wool for various purposes. Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that wool is processed in three main stages. These include raising sheep and removing their fleece, processing in factories, and lastly conversion into products.

Initially, sheep are reared until they reach maturity, after which their fleece is collected after shearing. The fleece is thereafter cleaned and dried before it is mechanically separated to follow two distinct processing paths. The wool is either placed in a large number of baskets for further processing or transformed into string, which is subsequently recycled.

In the following stage, these tufts of wool are packaged and stored prior to being dyed in a container. A specialized machine is then employed to spin the dyed wool into balls of yarn, which can finally be used for knitting or for the production of items such as jackets and carpets.
