Bar chart #5

The bar chart illustrates American fast food consumption in the years 2003, 2006 and 2013.

Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that most Americans ate fast food once weekly and once or twice monthly. On the contrary, the figures for those who did not eat junk food and consumed it daily were the lowest.

In 2003, the percentages of people who had the habit of consuming fast food once a week and once or twice a month were the most common, accounting for around 31% and 30% respectively. These categories’ proportions witnessed opposite trajectories thereafter, with those eating once a week rising to about 34% in 2006 and reducing significantly to approximately 27% in 2013, whereas eating once or twice monthly declined considerably to exactly 25% and reached its peak at 34% in the final year in question.

The figure for never eating fast food’ was marginally higher than that of daily fast food consumption, with the former making up 5% and the latter about 4% in 2003. Both categories declined slightly after three years and remained stable until 2013, contributing approximately 4% for never consuming fast food and around 3% for eating fast food daily. Those who only ate a few times yearly started at about 13% and grew to 15% in the two final years, while for several times a week, its percentage stood at roughly 17% in 2013, increased to 20% in 2006 and ended the period at slightly over 15%.
