Development of adverts

Advertisements are becoming more and more common in everyday life. Is it a positive or negative development?

Adverts have become increasingly prevalent in individuals’ daily life. In my opinion, although these adverts can cause distractions and encourage wasteful spending, their prevalence is decidedly positive on the whole as it contributes significantly to economic development.  

On the one hand, these adverts can be a major source of distractions. When individuals surf the net, the pervasiveness of advertisements can disrupt their concentration during work or study sessions, leading to a significant decline in productivity. For example, students who watch academic videos on Youtube are regularly interrupted by one-minute unskippable pop-up ads and lose focus as a result. The ubiquity of these adverts can also lead to unnecessary spending. The sheer number of advertisements for discounted products  online is likely to tempt individuals to overspend on nonessential items. 

However, I believe that advertisements are a net positive to society due to their economic benefits. The overwhelming presence of adverts can incentivize consumers to make more purchases, resulting in increased profits for businesses and additional tax revenue for the government. The rise in sales can stimulate an expansion in production, thus generating more employment opportunities and demand for components from suppliers. A standout example of the economic value of advertisements can be demonstrated with Apple as their Iphone marketing campaigns drive global consumer demand and make significant contributions to the US’s economy. 

In conclusion, although the prevalence of adverts can lead to consumers spending excessively on unnecessary items, it is unequivocally positive on the whole because it promotes economic development.
