Task 1: The bar chart shows the percentage of men and women in Great Britain who had driving licenses and another bar chart shows the percentage of men and women who were young drivers at the age of 17-20
The first bar chart illustrates the proportions of males and females in Great Britain owning driving licenses over a period of 30 years starting from 1976 and the second chart demonstrates how many drivers are from the age of 17 to 20 in 1996 and 2006. Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the total data for driving license holders of both genders witnessed upward trends over the period in question, while the opposite was true for young drivers. Driver license ownership among men was always higher than among women in all the years examined, even in the 17 to 20 age cohort.
In 1976, the percentage of men with driver licenses was significantly higher than that of women, accounting for 70% and 30%, respectively. Over the following five years, men’s proportion remained unchanged, whereas women’s grew slightly to 35%. Between 1981 and 2006, both men and women’s statistics experienced upward patterns, with the former increasing gradually to end at 80% and the latter more significantly to finish at 60%.
In terms of the figure for young drivers possessing driving licenses, men’s percentage was considerably greater than women’s, recording 50% and 30%, in turn. After ten years, men’s data underwent a less marked decline of around 5%, while women’s dipped more substantially by 10% to reach exactly 20%.
