Studying abroad

In an era of globalization, some people think that studying abroad is the best way to attain a well paid job while others believe other options are better. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Many feel that pursuing tertiary education in a foreign country provides an individual with the best career opportunities, while others argue otherwise. In my opinion, despite the benefits of cultural familiarity when staying in one’s origin country, studying abroad still offers better career prospects.

Those who argue against studying overseas typically point to the preconditions of attaining a well-paid job being related to better understanding of local norms and relationships. Individuals remaining in their home countries can take advantage of their native language, existing connections, and deeper understanding of local market trends. All of these factors instill greater levels of confidence in an individual, allowing one to strive for excellence and earn higher salaries as a result. There is some evidence for this contention in the number of successful entrepreneurs who study and live in their country of origin such as Bill Gates and Henry Ford

However, this situation is generally only true for select cases in developed nations and most students globally should still pursue studying abroad for economic reasons. Individuals migrating to more advanced countries to study can gain access to educational opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable in their hometown. For instance, Asian students pursuing further education in countries, such as Finland and Norway, are exposed to some of the best learning materials and teaching methodologies, laying the foundation for better career prospects. These students then can find higher-paying jobs, either in developed nations or in their home country where they are likely to be highly sought-after assets for most employers. The clearest evidence for this reality is that employers tend to offer international students higher pay grades for starting positions

In conclusion, although staying in one’s home country facilitates the process of securing a decent job to a certain extent, I think it is more beneficial for students to pursue education overseas in the majority of contexts. All students should therefore consider studying abroad if the opportunity is economically feasible
