The manufacturing of olive oil

The diagram illustrates the steps involved in the manufacturing of olive oil.

Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the manufacturing of olive oil is divided into three main stages. These include the collection of olives, then processing in factories, and lastly delivery to stores.

In the first stage of the process, olives are harvested manually from the trees by rake, and thereafter stored in a vat for two to three days. These olives are then placed on a conveyor belt to be rinsed with cool water, followed by them being crushed by multiple hammers. Once crushed, olive stones will flow out from one end into a container, while the resultant olive paste will be transferred through a tube to reach the next step.

In the following stage, the paste will be pressed and filtered to create oil, which is subsequently delivered to a centrifuge. This is where the oil is spun and separated into either water, which is discharged through one end, or oil through another into bottles on a conveyor belt. Finally, these bottles are transported by truck / lorry to retail outlets.
